Recently I have been researching hanging chairs for a London garden design. There are lots on the market and finding a piece that’s beautiful, sculptural and comfortable is the challenge. Here I have highlighted some of the great chairs and companies I have found, suitable for a range of garden styles.
For cool simplistic style these hanging chairs by raw studio are an excellent choice. Designed and crafted in the UK to minimise environmental impact, from FSC exterior grade birch ply, they are suitable for interior and exterior use. Each folds flat for easy storage, a particularly useful feature in a smaller urban garden.
For high end sophistication the Nestrest has to be the one. Designed by Daniel Pouzet and Fred Frety, two of Paris’s most intriguing design talents. An organic architectural pod inspired by the shapes, colours and textures found in nature. Evocative of an over sized birds nest it creates an ideal place for relaxation, meditation and secluded open-air conversation.
For a stylish retro look the Cocoon Hanging Chair is an attractive, obtainable option. Made from resin coated rattan with a spiderweb weave it’s trouble free, suitable for any weather and requires no maintenance. A great comfy and beautiful chair to curl up in on a warm summers evening.
For relaxed boho style a simple hammock chair is an effortless addition to the garden. This one from The Worm That Turned is handcrafted in Colombia from high quality, thick undyed and unbleached, organic cotton. Perhaps not as sculptural as other options but extremely comfortable and lovely hanging from an old tree in an informal style garden.
For a traditional style seat this swing chair has a classic romantic feel. Hand crafted by Sitting Spiritually, who produce a wide range of beautiful swing seats, in timber sourced from FSC registered forests near their studio in Lyme Regis. it’s a great choice for hanging below a majestic leafy tree.
