Stylish and practical are the ideal coupling when it comes to buying gifts for lovers of gardens and the outdoors. I’ve put together my top christmas gift list from some of my favorite companies, most designed and manufactured here in the UK. Treat someone you love or maybe yourself!
Vintage Border Fork
There’s something so satisfying about working with vintage tools. A good border fork is well made, light and has a natural, comfortable feel to work with. Vintage tools have a smooth handle that only comes with years of use and care and once repaired they are sharp and hardwearing. Garden and Wood have an excellent selection of vintage border forks and other tools.

Handmade Leather Boots
Every good gardener needs a comfortable pair of boots and there’s no reason why they shouldn’t look great too. I’ve recently ordered a pair of these fab Derby boots from Devon based handmade shoe company Conker Shoes. Using quality materials, sustainable rubber soling and traditional cordwaining techniques they produce ethical shoes made to keep for life. When the time comes they’re fully repairable and resoleable by Conker too.
These colourful waterproof cushions allow comfy outdoor seating and can be left outside (or forgotten to be brought in) without worry. They’re available in a range of kitsch patterns and colours. I’d recommend plumping (forgive me) for a mix of Aubergine Spotty and Floral Green. Available from Oily Rag online.
