Winter is a quiet time in the gardening calendar and the perfect season to take stock, plan, indulge in reading and ready yourself for the spring season that waits around the corner.
Gardens may appear bleak at this time of the year but with well planned structural planting and the addition of sculptural pieces you can create interest and enticement at any time of the year.
We recently commissioned willow artist Rachel Carter to produce a group of willow spheres and 2 leaf sculptures for our Hertfordshire family garden design. These are planned to nestle within soft perennial planting to add structure and interest through the winter months, especially when covered by sparkling frost (or a layer of snow if recent winters are anything to go by!). Willow gives a soft transient feel that works wonderfully in a more relaxed garden design and with a linseed oil coating these lovely sculptures will last 10 to 15 years outside.
